Awards

  • The Society for Modeling and Simulation International and the Organizing Committee of the 2008 Spring Simulation Multiconference (SpringSim'08), in recognition of the research paper quality, originality, and significance in modeling and simulation, presented the Best Paper Award to Kalyan Perumalla and Brandon Aaby during the annual conference held in Ottawa, Canada on April 14-17, 2008.  Their paper was entitled "Data Parallel Execution Challenges and Runtime Performance of Agent Simulations on GPUs."  The SpringSim'08 is an annual conference sponsored by The Society for Modeling and Simulation International which covers state-of-the-art developments in computer simulation technologies, as well as scientific, industrial, and business applications.

  • April McMillan received an Oak Ridge National Laboratory HBCU/MEI Advocate Award for performance in FY-07 regarding her contributions to the ORNL Minority Education Program.   She was honored and presented with a special recognition plaque during the 9th Annual ORNL Small Business Awards ceremony held on April 10, 2008 at the ORNL Conference Center.  ORNL Laboratory Director Thom Mason was the keynote speaker. 

  • The team of Richard Ward (CSED/M&S), Barbara Beckerman (CSED/M&S), Dan Koch (CSED/GIS&T), Patricia Payne (UT subcontractor), April McMillan (CSED/M&S), Kenneth Childs (CSED/M&S), Michael Moore (Measurement Science & Systems Engineering Division), and John Wilgen (Measurement Science & Systems Engineering Division) received a 2008 Significant Event Award for the “Successful Completion of the Bombing Prevention and Capabilities Analysis Project.”  Other members of CSED who participated on this project were Kara Kruse (CSED/M&S), Paul Shipe (CSED/M&S), David Sulfredge (CSED/M&S), Sarah Fischer (CSED/DSS&E), Johnny Tolliver (CSED/ASER), and Mark Tuttle (CSED/GIS&T).

  • John Kirkpatrick received a 2008 Significant Event Award for "Flow-Path Analysis Resulting in Multi-Million Dollars in Savings to the USAF."

  • Richard Ward received a 2006 ORISE Mentor Award for mentoring a HERE student (Matt Woerner).

  • Kalyan Perumalla received a 2007 Significant Event Award for “Large scale parallel discrete event simulation on 16,000 processors of the Blue Gene supercomputer”

  • The team of Terri Rose (M&S), Bobby White, Glenn Allgood (M&S), Tim McIntyre, Regina Ferrell, Ron Lee, Richard Jones, Ken Weaver, Olama Husseini (M&S PostDoc), and John Knox (M&S student) received a 2007 Team Significant Event Award for the “Successful design and deployment of an air cargo screening system at Delta Air Logistics at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG)”

  • B. Richard Bass received the 2007 Distinguished Engineer Award at the annual ORNL Award’s Night held November 16.
