Welcome

The Research Alliance in Math and Science (RAMS) program - a cooperative effort among DOE, national laboratories and universities - is aimed at increasing the number of minorities who pursue advanced degrees in science, mathematics and engineering. This project is sponsored by the Mathematical, Information, and Computational Sciences Division; Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research; U.S. Department of Energy. The work was performed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which is managed by UT-Battelle.

This site contains a summary of the research done on New Local Minimization Algorithms for the TRUST Global Optimization Code.[1] The scope of this task is to develop code (in Visual FORTRAN 95), and test a new algorithm based on “fractional power adaptive switching gradient descent” (FPASGD) for TRUST. Such an algorithm should provide additional speed during each local minimization process and thereby increase the overall efficiency of the TRUST algorithm for large scale global optimization problems.
