About Me
Hi, my name is Nicholas Brabson and I am currently an upcoming sophomore at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. I am majoring in Electrical Engineering with a grade point average of 3.38. My current interests in this field are developing, but robotics seems very appealing to me. Although I have just completed one year in engineering, I am excited about the learning opportunities that only this fascinating major can provide.
I am proud to be a part of the Research Alliance in Math and Science (RAMS) internship program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This internship gives students the opportunity for collaborative research with highly respected mentors in an interactive work environment. I work in the Engineering Science and Technology Division with the RF and Microwave Systems Group. I have the distinct privilege of being under the tutelage of Paul Ewing.
My hometown is Knoxville, TN. I originally grew up in the North Knoxville and Mascot areas in what I call "the country", but later moved to Farragut, TN in 3rd grade. I graduated from Farragut High School in 2004 and decided not to leave Knoxville, thus attending UT. I contemplated leaving here for Tennessee Tech or even venturing out of state, but I found it too hard to leave my family. My parents, Fredrick and Delores Brabson, are very influential people in my life. I have one brother, Fredrick II, who also resides in Knoxville. I attend New Covenant Baptist Church, where my father is the pastor.
This experience is very beneficial to the development of my career path. Getting the privilege to work at place such as ORNL gives me a chance to "taste test" the many different career fields that can branch from Electrical Engineering. I am thankful to Debbie McCoy for giving me an opportunity to work here for 11 weeks. This internship will give me an advantage on the work I will be doing once I get back to the classroom.
