Education, Professional Experience: Dr. Arnold Tharrington began his career and served in the United States Navy from 1984 to 1990. He then attended the College of Charleston in South Carolina where he obtained his B.S. degree in Physics. At the University of Pittsburg, he went on to obtain a PhD in Physics, focusing on computational chemistry including phase transitions of small molecules. In 2000, he relocated to Salt Lake City to work at the University of Utah where he focused on proton transfer in biological membranes until 2005. Dr. Tharrington now works at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Computational Sciences Division.
Research Interests: Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Biological Systems with emphasis on development of efficient parallel algorithms for the optimal performance of High Performance Computers.
