Computing Infrastructure Projects and Services
Computing Infrastructure
Projects and Services provides Laboratory services through the following
teams:
The Infrastructure
Services (NCSgroup) team manages Web-related software on the central
internal and external Web servers, including Secure HTTP servers, Harvest,
and WAIS search engines. They focus on providing a state-of-the-art Web
application development environment that can be leveraged by other groups,
while providing technical support for the Netscape and Lynx Web browsers.
Additional duties include administering the central e-mail routing and
e-mail software on central systems while providing technical support for
centrally-supported mail applications (e.g., Eudora, Pine, Whos and Ph).
We're also the one's who provide the fax and pager e-mail gateways. For
more information on Network Computing Services, contact
cips@ornl.gov.
The Workstation Support group provides support to UNIX workstation
users at ORNL, ETTP, and Y-12 in the areas of system
administration services and technical support through the Computer Helpline
and e-mail. The group maintains an extensive archive of workstation-related
software and documentation. The archive contains material developed within
ORNL, commercial software site-licensed to ORNL, and freeware (copyrighted
or public domain) downloaded from the Internet for fast and easy retrieval.
The group maintains an e-mail mailing list used for announcing items of
interest to ORNL's UNIX workstation community. For more information on Workstation Support, contact helpline@ornl.gov.
Through these teams, and the Project Management function, Computing Infrastructure Projects and Services makes sure that ORNL is getting the maximum benefit
from its investments in business applications and information systems
and ensures that all of the Laboratory's information activities are taking
full advantage of opportunities to integrate their processes more fully
with the latest information technologies.
