Cyber and Information Security
The mission of the Cyber and Information Security group is to protect
information on ORNL automated information systems commensurate with risk
of loss and harm while protecting
access to and from automated information systems on the Oak Ridge Network.
Our group manages the Lab's cyber security program and works with DOE,
ORNL management, and a network of Division Computer Security Officers
(DCSOs) to implement a risk-based program that accommodates "open research"
data, proprietary CRADA data, and everything in between.

Security
The process for clearance and
release ensures that technical content is sound, the government's patent
interests are considered, information released to the public is not classified
or otherwise controlled, and DOE regulations are met--including the regulation
that we send DOE's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI)
copies of our technical reports and full conference papers (and not abstracts
or viewgraphs). These four steps are now carried out by the originating
division, the ORNL Patent Counsel, and Authorized Derivative Classifier
and the Classification Officer if work is in a non-DUSA (Designated Unclassified
Subject Area), and the ORNL Technical Information Office.
